ABOUT THE RESIDENCY

 

The .abeceda [New Music Academy] supports research as compositional inquiry: artistic questions pursued through situated methods, listening, making, analysis, experimentation, rehearsal, documentation, and revision, producing knowledge in and through sound rather than retrospective academic framing alone.

 

Each composer develops one work for one formation: solo, string quartet, chamber ensemble, symphony orchestra, or choir. Research may engage historical, theoretical, technological, embodied, or practice-based perspectives; no method is prescribed. Online exchange clarifies questions, sources, assumptions, and compositional consequences. Rehearsal tests materials and redirects decisions through sound, action, interpretation, and listening.

 

The programme neither asks composers to imitate science nor requires academic prose. It seeks precision, artistic risk, methodological awareness, and openness to findings that may redirect the work. Each composer leaves with a premiere and documentation.
