ABOUT THE RESIDENCY

 

The .abeceda [New Music Academy] programme approaches cultural paradigms as situated systems of meaning, memory, transmission, identity, and power, examining how histories, practices, languages, and institutions shape compositional materials, performance relations, and modes of public interpretation.

 

Each selected composer develops one work for one formation: solo, string quartet, chamber ensemble, symphony orchestra, or choir. Projects may engage situated histories, living practices, language, memory, archives, or institutions. Online exchange clarifies context, positionality, permissions, and source use; rehearsals test how these relations affect material, notation, performer agency, interpretation, and reception.

 

Through composition, contextual research, rehearsal, critical reflection, and public presentation, the programme develops situated methods while resisting tokenism, exoticism, and universalising claims. Each composer leaves with a premiered work, professional documentation, ethical clarity, and collaborative relationships.
