ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
The .abeceda [New Music Academy] programme frames composition as a doctoral research case: an inquiry in which questions, methods, materials, and reflection evolve through compositional practice, culminating in presentation at the seventh Bled Contemporary Music Week.
Each selected composer develops one work for one formation: solo, string quartet, chamber ensemble, symphony orchestra, or choir. Online sessions clarify the case’s research question, context, sources, methodology, and intended contribution. Rehearsals generate practice-based evidence by testing materials, notation, form, performer agency, interpretation, and feasibility, enabling documented findings to redirect the work.
Through composition, rehearsal, documentation, critical reflection, and public presentation, the programme advances rigour without reducing composition to scientific imitation or academic prose. Each composer leaves with a premiered work, professional documentation, methodological clarity, and collaborative relationships.
