ABOUT THE RESIDENCY

 

The .abeceda [New Music Academy] programme treats cooperation, participation, governance, care, exchange, and collective agency as compositional questions. How might music distribute initiative, expertise, dependency, risk, refusal, or repair while organising authority, attention, and responsibility differently?

 

Each composer develops one work for one formation: solo, string quartet, chamber ensemble, symphony orchestra, or choir. Projects may distribute material through fixed, negotiated, delegated, rotating, conditional, or collective processes. Rehearsal critically examines how performer agency, ensemble relations, authority, responsibility, consent, friction, and invisible labour operate together within sound and working method.

 

The academy does not presume that music models or repairs society. It enables composers and performers to test what structures enable, constrain, reveal, or conceal—and to revise the music and terms of collaboration before the premiere.
