ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
The .abeceda [New Music Academy] programme invites composers to create works through engagement with philosophical concepts and questions. Concepts do not function as themes for illustration, but as generative propositions whose consequences unfold through compositional decisions.
Each composer articulates one conceptual proposition and translates it into a work for one formation: solo, string quartet, chamber ensemble, symphony orchestra, or choir. Online exchange examines how an idea can organise material, form, temporality, notation, listening, and embodied performance. Rehearsal tests how those operations become perceptible, coherent, and productive in sound.
Through composition, analysis, rehearsal, reflection, and public presentation, the programme strengthens composers’ capacity to make philosophical thought operative in sound. Each composer leaves with a premiered work, professional documentation, refined artistic methods, and lasting collaborative relationships.
