ABOUT THE RESIDENCY

 

The .abeceda [New Music Academy] programme treats sonic arts, phenomenology, and acoustics as interdependent compositional dimensions, examining how embodied listening and acoustic behaviour shape materials, notation, form, performer action, spatial relations, and perceptual attention during performance.

 

Each selected composer develops one work for one formation: solo, string quartet, chamber ensemble, symphony orchestra, or choir. Online sessions clarify listening questions, acoustic conditions, and compositional procedures. Rehearsals test how resonance, projection, balance, articulation, duration, density, and performer position alter the work, letting performers’ experience and repeated listening guide iterative revision.

 

Through composition, listening, rehearsal, critical reflection, and public presentation, the programme develops acoustically responsive methods without universalising perception or privileging acoustic models. Each composer leaves with a premiered work, professional documentation, methodological precision, and collaborative relationships.
